Exercises and shoots from our training days
A look at the kind of practical work we set: framing drills, piece-to-camera takes, interviews and live rehearsals, as they appear in our classroom and on location.
What a day with us looks like
These scenes show the exercises that fill our training days. Each one is a task we set, repeated and reviewed until the technique holds under real conditions.
-
Handheld walking shot on a town street
Trainees follow a moving subject along a pavement while keeping the frame level. The tutor walks alongside and corrects stance and breathing as the shot is repeated.
-
Piece to camera in daylight
A reporter delivers a short standup while the group watches the monitor. We review voice, posture and where the eyes land before the next take.
-
Two-person interview set-up
One trainee asks questions while another frames the guest and checks sound. The pair swap roles so each learns how the other's choices shape the edit.
-
Boom and light for an indoor interview
A boom microphone is placed just out of frame and a single portable light is positioned. Trainees compare the sound and picture before and after each adjustment.
-
Rehearsed live crossing
A reporter and operator work through a live cue with timing and talkback. We then introduce a small interruption to see how the pair responds.
-
Classroom review of recorded footage
The group gathers around a screen to watch the morning's takes. Each clip is discussed for exposure, framing and whether an editor could use it.
